Campus Corner is Pinkerton Academy’s student-run School-Based Enterprise. DECA defines a School-Based Enterprise as an “entrepreneurial operation in a school setting that provides goods/services to meet the needs of the market. SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate National Curriculum Standards in Marketing, Finance, Hospitality or Management.” Working at Campus Corner allows students to gain practical, hands-on experience in customer service and sales, inventory management, promotions, visual merchandising, and financial analysis. Students are also able to develop their communication, teamwork, organization, and time management skills.
For the past five years, Campus Corner has been recognized as a Gold-Level School-Based Enterprise by national DECA
. In order to earn Gold-Level status, SBE’s must demonstrate outstanding achievement and a commitment to excellence and growth in the following areas:
- Financial Analysis
- Marketing Information Management
- Market Planning
- Product/Service Management
- Distribution/Channel Management
- Human Resource Management
- Social Responsibility
SBE’s are required to submit documentation to support achievement of each standard and performance indicator. Certification is available at the Bronze, Silver, and Gold level. Once initial certification is achieved, stores are eligible for re-certification for four additional years. After the fourth year of re-certification, stores are required to complete the original certification process.
Campus Corner’s management team, which consists of third-year Independent Study Marketing students, is responsible for completing the certification manual. Once certification is earned, management team members are eligible to attend and compete in the DECA School-Based Enterprise Academy at the International Career Development Conference.
